Bounty Program
DRAFT ARTICLE
In the interests of transparency, New Quaker Ministries drafts all of it’s
articles in the open. We are a non-profit, independent ministry, funded entirely through small individual donations
and contributions. While an article is in DRAFT, it is unfinished and is likely to change rapidly.
We need your help to make stuff! #
Over the next few months we will be building educational content to help people on their spiritual path, to teach moral lessons and to introduce Quakerism to a wider audience. We need help developing content for this website and for various product lines we wish to release. Which for the most part will be various print media such as comics, story books, flip books, postcards, pen and paper games, activity books, and zines.
Here are some of our active projects:
- This website, which will host a ton of well-researched content.
- “Quaker Cards”. A series of rack cards, each with study information and challenges on them which together form a kind of learning game.
- “Ministry Cards”. A series of small business cards or postcards, which state an important moral lesson or scripture on them to challenge the person the card is given to.
- Bible Flips. Small format comic books containing important Bible stories, moral lessons, or other philosophical lessons, which double as fun flip books.
- Slapper Stickers. Stickers of characters in various poses with quotes underneath or beside them designed to make people think about moral questions.
- Paper Games & Activities. Games and activities designed to be played with a pencil and paper, and limited
components. Some examples include:
Games Puzzles Word Games & Crafts Roll & Write Games Riddles Crosswords Flip & Fill Games Laterial thinking puzzles Nonograms Paper & Pencil Games Logic Puzzles Word Scrambles Narrative Puzzle Games Mazes Papercrafts Graphic Novel Adventures Cryptics Scavenger Hunts Mystery Games Acrostics Word Finds
How we plan to build it #
We want to build this ministry in the open by embracing a philosophy of radical transparency, and organic community-driven engagement. We call this approach transparent prototyping. This means we will release unfinished products, content, art, and other assets, as we are working on them.
For example, we release DRAFT articles in an unfinished state while they are still being written. We release unfinished prototypes with placeholder artwork and half-baked copy. Sometimes that means you’ll see us use royalty-free artwork we’ve purchased, or AI generated placeholder images. Sometimes the copy we use will just be a big blob of Lorem Ipsum. These kinds of works are intended to be conceptual and temporary.
We have faith that at the end of our product development process, we are going to have something we’re really proud we’ve created. But we will also have to tread through a lot of steps to get there, and some of those steps aren’t going to be pretty. We’re going to show you those steps anyway.
More importantly, we’re going to invite you to walk those steps with us, and in some cases we want to pay you to do it.
Introducing: The Bounty Program #
Instead of making a generic “call to action” we’ve decided to setup a more explicit Bounty program which details out specific opportunities for how you can best get involved and/or get paid by helping us build our ministry.
What is a bounty?
A bounty is a job posting for a small contract – as a “work made for hire” – to produce some content, assets, art, or other intellectual property in a limited amount or limited context but related to the purpose of furthering our ministry. These are – for all intents and purposes – actual jobs we are offering under contract which we intend to pay you for.
How does it work? #
- Register for the bounty program by filling out the application form here.
- We will interview you, and decide whether or not to accept you into the program.
- We will work with you to select a bounty that best fits your skills and interests.
- Deliver the first deliverable, halfway through your progress, for 25% of the total bounty.
- Deliver the second deliverable, 90% of the way through your progress, for 25% of the total bounty.
- Deliver the final deliverable, with all source files and assets, 100% of progress, for 50% of the total bounty.
- If all goes well, then we will work with you to select another bounty and the process repeats. :)
What are the terms and conditions? #
- All bounties posted here are job postings, and not job offers. You must register for the bounty, and sign a contract with us before you begin working on it. We will not pay you, unless a contract is signed before you begin any work.
- Bounties are only available to people working in the United States, preferably around the Pittsburgh area. Though we are open to working with people from Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and West Virginia as well.
- Bounties are only open to human workers which work privately for themselves. No companies with more than 3 employees can apply. No AI agents can apply.
- No AI or generative algorithmic tooling will be allowed to be used except in limited cases like inpainting or similar context-aware fill tools which one might find in Adobe products or other widely-used (non-AI driven) desktop publishing software. We expect you to use the full weight of your human potential. If you are a master craftsperson in your field and want to use algorithmic tooling, we can chat about that on a case by case basis, but you must demonstrate skill in another medium without the use of such tooling first.
- All bounties must be delivered in a reasonable timeframe. If it typically takes you two weeks to make an illustration, and you sign up and agree to an illustration bounty, then we expect you to deliver that bounty within a couple of weeks (give or take), not several months. If you cannot complete the bounty quickly, please don’t register for it.
- Bounties that take too long – that is that they go outside the pre-agreed upon timeframe – will be cancelled and will not be paid. You will be notified if this happens, and it will not be a surprise (to a reasonable person) when/if it does. That is to say, we will give you mutliple warnings before hand.
- Bounties will be paid out in three parts:
- at the first half of the work being completed, for 25% of the payment.
- when the work is 90% of the way complete, for 25% of the payment and finally
- when the work is 100% complete, for the final 50% of the payment upon delivery of all final deliverables.
- We will always pay you promptly and in full what is due at the time it is due.
- While there are only three checkin points where money is paid, you are welcome to check in with us as often as you feel it nessecary for feedback or collaboration.
- Bounties are works-made-for-hire as that is defined in US Copyright Law, unless otherwise noted in the bounty. That means once we pay you for the work, we own it and you can no longer sell it to others, nor can you assign the rights to the work to another person. We would own all the rights to the work.
- All bounties made as works made for hire will be licensed back to their authors as a non-revokable, perpetual, non-commercial license. That means you can use it in your portfolio or share the work freely with others for non-commercial purposes, and that we can never take this license away from you.
FAQ #
I’m a photographer. Would you license my work, or claim Copyright as a work for hire? #
It depends. We would typically license personal stock photography, rather than claim Copyright unless the photos were taken for the express purposes of fulfilling the bounty or have significant cultural value as art themselves. For example, fine art photography made for the purposes of the bounty will be treated as a commissioned work made for hire. A photo you took in the park 10 years ago that is “just perfect for the bounty”, would be licensed. It’s a happy accident but wasn’t intentionally made for the bounty itself. We pay significantly less for licensed work. We pay significantly more for comissioned works made for hire. The better the work, the better the art, the more we are willing to pay.
